JACKIE ROBINSON BASEBALL LEAGUE

The Jackie Robinson Baseball League was formed in the spring of 1993. An intramural instructional league for kids in three age groups – 6 & under tee-ball, 8 & under coach pitch, and 10 & under pitching machine – the Jackie Robinson League gives boys and girls the opportunity to learn and play the game, as well as teaching the kids about the rich history of baseball in the African American community.
All teams in the Jackie Robinson League are named after the great Negro League teams from the first half of the 20th century, when baseball was the number one sport in the African American community. Each child is required to complete a report on the children’s book, “Jackie Robinson and the Story of All-Black Baseball.” Over the past decade we have been blessed with the opportunity to introduce the children to some original members of the Philadelphia Stars Baseball Club, and have them share stories about life in the Negro Leagues.
